Changing the landscape of underground construction in Nepal.
Bringing international attention to a country’s first mechanically-driven tunnel.
In 2018, I organized a press event to a very special project being built in the southern Himalayas of Nepal: The Bheri Babai Diversion Multipurpose Project. Over the course of one week, I brought in international press to highlight the world-class construction at the country’s first project built by a Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM).
The new infrastructure, now operational, brings critical irrigation water to drought-ridden areas, generating hydroelectricity along the way. Two major news articles and a blog were written in the international press after the event, bringing worldwide attention to the infrastructure. The World Bank took notice, contacting us with interest in funding future infrastructure projects in the country.
From a marketing perspective, we received multiple RFPs as a result of the new projects and improved our position in a new market, particularly after the tunnel was completed one year earlier than scheduled.
